Chemnitz Christmas Market has always been a magnet for visitors from near and far.
During the run-up to Christmas, over 200 stalls around Chemnitz Town Hall offer all kinds of Christmas delicacies and beautiful gift ideas.
Traditional popular craft products from the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) feature prominently amongst them, including Raachermannln (carved pipe-smoking figures), candle arches and pyramids.
Five-level Christmas pyramids, music boxes, candle arches, figurines of miners and angels, nutcrackers and wooden snowmen all evoke the festive world of the Erzgebirge.
A varied programme is presented on a large stage by the Town Hall.
Grand Miners’ Parade
“Glück auf! Glück auf! - der Steiger kommt” (Traditional miners’ greeting: the miner is coming!)
These words resound through Chemnitz city centre when the Grand Miners’ Parade on the eve of the first Sunday in Advent rings in Christmastime in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains).
Around 1000 marchers in uniform, miner musicians and miner singers are the highlight of the festivities on the eve of the first Sunday in Advent with their impressive parade through Chemnitz city centre and the following concert.
